Engineering at West Suffolk College provides a practical and theoretical introduction to mechanical and electronic engineering, computer aided drawing and microprocessing. You’ll get the skills to help solve the problems of tomorrow – from how aircraft work to the electronics in your mobile phone.

The Level 3 course could earn you enough UCAS points to study engineering at any UK university or take an advanced apprenticeship, working with an engineering firm and career off to an early start.

At West Suffolk College we offer organisations and learners the chance to learn and develop the skills required to ensure engineering remains prominent in the local area. We offer Level 2 to Level 6 and work with employers across many different pathways such as Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Maintenance, Welding, Tool Making, Design, Installation etc. Our excellent facilities allow for learning to be conducted in a very supportive environment and our work based team helps to embed that classroom knowledge fully in the workplace.

About the course

Are you ready to make a meaningful impact in your organisation?

Skills Bootcamps are Government co-funded, flexible programmes which give people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills over a 12 week duration.

This Skills Bootcamp will cover the essentials in sustainability and explore practical strategies to integrate them into business operations. Suitable for employees within businesses of all sizes and industries, as well as professionals in managerial or decision-making roles who are interested in integrating sustainability principles into their organisation's operations. This Skills Bootcamp provides accessible insights and practical strategies aimed at initiating positive change within your business.

Entry requirements

Delegates must be working within a company based in Suffolk or Norfolk.

Introduction to Sustainability Management (IEMA)

Climate Change and Carbon Footprint (IEMA)

Principles of Sustainable Development

What you'll learn (core modules)

Participants will gain an understanding of the basic sustainability principles and their practical application in business. They will gain insights for reducing environmental footprint, explore sustainable supply chain management and develop an understanding of leadership skills to foster a culture of sustainability within their organisation. 

How will I be assessed?

Attendees will be assessed through a project lead presentation task where learners summarize key insights gained, providing practical suggestions for applying newfound skills in their place of employment. This exercise fosters critical thinking, empowering participants to drive positive change within their organisations. This project will be completed during the Skills Bootcamp, there is no work required outside of the session.

Where is the course delivered? (facilities/classrooms)

This programme will be delivered in a mix of both online and face to face sessions.  At times we will utilise our Extended Reality classroom to enable guest speakers from industry. In person sessions will be delivered at our University and Professional Development Centre, 73 Weston Way, Bury St Edmunds, IP33 3SP.

Where will this course take me?

Individuals who complete the skills bootcamp will be able to identify as a Sustainability Champion within their workplace.  Further training is available in sustainability at West Suffolk College to fully develop and master your role in the future. 

How much will it cost?

Organisations with less than 250 employees are required to contribute £280, organisations over 250 employees are required to contribute £840.
