Please contact us to find out more and how to join

What will I learn?

My aim is always to be as inclusive as possible, to enable the development of skills and confidence, or simply to be a helpful bystander.

The early drawing exercises within the first two to three weeks will provide beginners with a firm base for their further study and development. From that point the only limit will be the individual ambition.

The class member can continue throughout with Pencil drawing if they wish, but the moving on to colour and Soft Pastel is the other option.

My work with Soft Pastels began in 1972, over 50 years ago, and I still learn with every day that I draw/paint with them. Regardless of the medium we will use it in the study of landscape, nature, portraiture and still life. My experience is fully available to take members along their own path in their own areas of interests and to help them Observe...Observe...Observe..., the key to all great work.

Who is the course for?

The course will be well rounded to cater for everyone from beginner to intermediate and will also provide a very positive work space for the experienced artist, where all techniques, styles and ideas can be discussed.

Will I have to provide anything?

Pencil Drawing;

  • Set of pencils ranged HB to 6B
  • A good kneadable Eraser (Faber Castell)
  • Drawing Sketch Book (Canson or other 230gsm smooth)
  • 12" Rule

Pastel:

  • Desk Easel - A good value option is on sale at THE WORKS for £12-00 ( I do have a couple of spares if anyone is unable to equip themselves with one)
  • Starter set of soft pastels (to include a brilliant white) These can be REMBRANT, WINSOR & NEWTON, UNISON or other, but get the best you can afford as they are a good investment and last a long time if used according to demonstration.
  • Good pad of Pastel Paper - usually mixed colours. Try to get heavier weighted paper if possible
  • Pack of Stumps large to small (rolled paper blenders).

The tutor will have a selection of materials in class in case you want to speak to him before buying the items
