Advice & Help Centre

About the course

The Adult Maths & English department offers a range of high quality teaching options to suit all expectations and lifestyles. Whether you left education early or didn't get the grades, we are on hand to help you achieve success.

This is an intensive 1 week Functional skills class, for learners to take their L1 or L2 in a week.  The class runs Monday - Friday 930-430pm daily.  You will be required to attend all 5 days and the exam will take place on day 5.

We appreciate the intensive approach does not work for everyone which is why we have weekly classes which will start again in September, either face to face or online.

Entry requirements

There are no formal requirements, but the results of initial assessments will be taken into account when deciding on the qualification and level for which you will be entered.

Qualifications

Functional Skills English (Edexcel), Levels 1 and 2.

Due to the intensive nature of this course we cannot offer it for Entry Level learners but we do have options available in September for weekly Entry Level classes.

What you'll learn (core modules)

This course will also provide you with English skills in preparation for progressing to GCSE, university and/or employment.

The qualification comprises three assessments: reading, writing and speaking and listening.

How will I be assessed?

Examinations will be taken for reading and writing along with a speaking and listening assessment.

Where is the course delivered? (facilities/classrooms)

Lessons take place at The University and Professional Development Centre on Western Way in Bury St Edmunds .

Further details and options will be provided once you submit an enquiry about our courses.

Where will this course take me?

Functional Skills qualifications for Levels 1 and 2 are progression routes towards the GCSE. When a qualification is successfully achieved you will have the option to progress onto a higher level functional skill or a GCSE.

How much will it cost?

If you have lived within the EU for the previous 3 years and do not already have a GCSE grade C or above in this subject then you qualify for full course funding.

I'm interested. What should I do now?
