Electrotechnical Installation

Imagine a life without electricity – no mobile phone, no internet, no TV, no lighting! It was only in 1831 that Michael Faraday discovered electromagnetic induction, the principle behind the electric transformer and generator. This discovery was crucial in allowing electricity to be transformed from a curiosity into a powerful innovative technology.

Now, just under 200 years later, we cannot live without electricity. Whatever technological developments happen in the future; electricity will be at its heart. Without electricians, the world doesn’t function.

If you have your heart set on having an active career as an electrician, our courses can help you get on the right track. You will study specific units, all taught by industry professionals who possess a wealth of knowledge of their specific area. Every unit is geared towards your vocational area, aiming to inspire and enthuse you to pursue a career in the electrotechnical sector.

You will learn the theory and practical elements of your chosen career. We will also ensure that you are given every opportunity to work on the practical elements to give you a vocationally specific experience. You will also be undertaking work experience placements, allowing you to gain valuable, practical, real-world experiences as well as providing opportunities to develop links in the industry with a view to gaining an Apprenticeship.

Our department is developing future electricians, and with nearly 250 students each year, we pride ourselves on giving you the best possible start to your future career.

The UK Electrical Contracting Sector is worth over £120bn to the UK economy, with sustained growth over the last 10 years. There are jobs and opportunities readily available in all sectors of the industry, and it is our job to nurture, encourage and train you to give you the head start you need to become successful.
