marketing advice at west suffolk college in sudbury

Sudbury based marketing agency Mackman Group hosted a successful careers event on Wednesday 1st June, allowing young people from the ages of 13-24 the chance to speak to marketers and understand how rewarding a career in the sector can be.

The event was organised through Careeriosity, an initiative from Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils that aims to connect local businesses with young people to highlight the career opportunities on their doorstep. West Suffolk College supported the event by offering advice on next steps to attendees, explaining the range of education options available to them for careers in design, digital, content and videography disciplines. Representatives from Mackman Research were on hand to discuss careers in market research, and to discuss some of the transferable skills that can be beneficial in a research career.

Attendees were able to have conversations with Mackman staff in a relaxed environment, taking advantage of the weather to host the event in the business’s outdoor space. The stations were set up to allow young people to visit the areas that interested them, and to find out more about roles that they weren’t previously aware of. As a proud Sudbury based business, Mackman Group was delighted to have the opportunity to give back to the community and open the business to local young people. One attendee said, “It has opened my mind to more opportunities in the industry,” while another commented that, “It allowed me to hear from different perspectives involved in the whole process, which helped me to learn a bit of everything.” All of the attendees agreed that the event has inspired them to explore their career options, and that they feel optimistic about the future after attending.

Paul Mackman, Managing Director at Mackman Group and Vice-Chair of the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s East of England board, said, “It worked very well from the business perspective. As well as being a good profile-raising opportunity, we all enjoyed encouraging those with an interest in a career in our sector. I am so pleased that we had the opportunity to work with Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils on this as it was an entirely positive experience for everyone involved. I'm very proud of my team who pulled it together from our side and were a credit to the business.”

For those who attended, photographs and video are available on Mackman Group’s social media profiles and on the website.
