Sam Bragoli-Jones, 29, from Sudbury works for The Mission Group as an associate people business partner. Sam has just won the HR apprentice of the year.
Sam said; “I did A levels and went to university and gained a degree in sports science. I then began a teacher training course but realised this wasn’t for me.
“So after gaining a role in HR at Abbeycroft Leisure, I started and completed an apprenticeship qualification.
“I’d say the difference between a degree and an apprenticeship is that you get to apply what you learn more when you are an apprentice.
“But I learnt lots on my degree and had the best four years at university and the academic side of things is something that I was able to improve.
“Ultimately, I have gained a great deal from my degree and apprenticeship - both providing me with opportunities to develop in slightly different ways. I think if I were to have just done my apprenticeship, I would have specialised in HR a lot sooner.
“In terms of the award, I was at home when I found out. It’s a nice feeling when you get recognised. It helps emphasise that I am doing the right thing.
“Future wise I’d love to climb the ladder of the HR world and run my own consultancy or become a director. Whatever I do, the idea of working for a business that makes a social impact is hugely important to me.”
