Go Green Networking Event

Eastern Education Group celebrated their third year of committing to a more sustainable future by hosting an event based around eco-friendly practices within construction.

The occasion took place inside the Extended Reality Lab based at the University Professional Development Centre in Bury St Edmunds.

Topics of conversations included everything from heating solutions to renewable energy.

Organiser of the event was Emily Streatfeild, an art and design lecturer and Go Green Event Co-ordinator for Eastern Education Group Emily said: “We set up four events every year in different areas of sustainability, bringing together experts, speakers and staff from the college. We have been doing this for three years now and it’s all about sharing knowledge, ideas, and creating future collaborations and projects. This particular event was all about making your house more energy efficient in an eco-friendly way. The reason we set up these events is so that we can come together to help instil knowledge in our learners so they can improve the condition of our world and the planet in the future.”

One of the speakers was Annie Benton - representing Ecological Building Systems and Adyta. Annie said: “We have a huge demand in the construction industry to change and its about education and awareness and say some things work, somethings don’t – so it’s about giving support to that change. Start reaching out to companies (like Ecological Building Systems) and talk to them and then make informed decisions would be my advice to others.”

And in terms of why businesses should work with their local college on events like this Annie added: ‘If you don’t educate young people in terms of what the future needs to be, then how are they going to be ready?’

The next Go Green event will be taking place in January 2025 and will be based around creative industries.
