A team of motorsports students from West Suffolk College is celebrating after clinching an impressive podium finish in the Student Motorsport Challenge within the Nankang City Car Cup Championship - a national competition featuring teams from colleges and universities across the UK.
Held over seven weekends at some of Britain’s most iconic racetracks - including Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Donington, and Snetterton - the Student Motorsport element of the championship challenges students to transform regular vehicles into race cars.
This year marked the third consecutive season of West Suffolk College’s participation, and the team delivered their strongest performance yet.

Alan Barrett, course director and lecturer for motorsport engineering and team manager at West Suffolk College, expressed his pride in the team’s journey: “Brady’s achievements reflect not only his skill but also the dedication and teamwork of the entire group.

Driver Brady Pollock, 19, from Haverhill, shared his excitement about the season’s outcome. “We set high expectations, but the results went beyond what I imagined. I was nervous at the start, but as a team, we achieved things I didn’t think possible.
Racing at tracks like Silverstone and Brands Hatch was surreal, and I’m so grateful to the college and Alan for this opportunity. I can’t wait to build on this experience, hopefully winning the championship next year and pursuing a professional career in motorsports.”
The success of this season has already opened doors for several team members in the competitive motorsports industry. Three students have secured roles, including one who is now working with Complete Motorsports Solutions, a company that travels globally with historic Formula 1 cars.
