850px adam tommeyAdam’s documentary focuses on the story of one individual who was a happy and secure farmer’s wife who went through a divorce and sadly suffered a tragic family bereavement; in turn she suffered from PTSD and became homeless.

One of our Media and Film Production students Adam Toomey has created a documentary based on the story of a homeless woman in Bury St Edmunds.

The Level 3, Year 1 student took it upon himself to create the documentary for his final major project after speaking with different people in Bury who had become homeless and realising that it is a real issue within our local town and society.

Adam, age 19 from Stowmarket said: “For me there was a raw element to this project, I stepped out of my comfort zone and asked people questions I would never normally ask. Not only did I get an insight into the hardships these people face it also showed me how to be independent and how to be adaptable to different situations.”

Adam’s documentary focuses on the story of one individual who was a happy and secure farmer’s wife who went through a divorce and sadly suffered a tragic family bereavement; in turn she suffered from PTSD and became homeless. Adam worked closely with the individual to really get behind her story and to give her a platform to be able to share this so people can see that homelessness can touch everyone – even those we may least expect.

Ben Pryke, Course Director for Media and Adam’s Tutor said: “Adam has demonstrated our college character strengths perfectly throughout this project. The documentary is so humbling and we cannot express how proud we are of this considerate young chap!”

Adam has taken part in a variety of different filming projects at the college and said that “The College have been such a key part of my learning, I have had work experience opportunities I would never have been exposed to without the support of the college.”

On the back of the hard work put into his documentary Adam has secured work experience with a former BBC freelancer where he will be supporting on the editing of a new documentary.
