In February, our Level 1 Diploma students undertook a litter pick of Abbey Gardens (and the route along the way) for module ASc9 Practical Actions to Protect the Environment.
Lecturer Abbie liaised directly with Bury Town Council who provided the students with the appropriate equipment and guidance on disposal of the waste once it was collected. The students collected a massive 35kg of rubbish! Most of which included cigarette butts, glass, cans and food wrappers.
The students really enjoyed the experience and were excited to be making a positive contribution to our local community. They have even asked if they can do it again!
Sarah Eaton said: “We are very proud of our students for taking on this project and brilliant work form our lecturer Abbie on teaching them the negative impact that humans can have on our planet and the importance of working with others to make changes that protect the environment both today and in the future.”
