BE NICE SOCIALThe online session was attended by more than 20 students on the college’s BA (Hons) Creative and Commercial Music course as well as some of next year’s new applicants.

Our Music degree students have benefitted from an online tutorial hosted by a multi-platinum award-winning producer.

George Shilling, who has worked with the likes of Ocean Colour Scene and Primal Scream, held a special ‘Tips and Tricks from the Music Industry’ alongside fellow producer Dennis Weinreich, who lists Eric Clapton and Miles Davis among his collaborations.

The online session was attended by more than 20 students on the college’s BA (Hons) Creative and Commercial Music course as well as some of next year’s new applicants.

Andrea Healy, Higher Education Integrated Learning Centre Manager said: “We have been trying many methods of online teaching and linking up with Zoom was a great way to bring industry to the students as well as providing great interactivity and discussion.

“To have two great music industry producers as well as the course team, current students and new applicants all working together on a mix was a great experience.”

Students used the session to add mixing techniques to their degree course work with George showing them techniques and his personal workflow on a track he was currently producing.

The tutorial was equally well received by students, who are now running their own interactive sessions.

Matthew Webb said: “This was a fantastic opportunity. I was able to experiment and apply most of what I took from the session as soon as it was over - with almost immediate benefits. “These sessions with industry professionals are invaluable and I can't wait for the next one.”

The college’s next industry session will take place on Saturday 30th April with live sound mix engineer Davide Lombardi, a graduate from the college who has worked with the likes of Ed Sheeran and Dido.

It is open to both students and anyone thinking of studying for a music degree here at West Suffolk College.
