Year 2 Fashion Media and Promotion have recently worked to a live client brief in collaboration with The Arc shopping centre, and undertook an exciting two-day photo shoot at the arc to support this.
The students used an empty unit at the arc shopping centre, working using professional studio set ups to generate imagery directly for their client.
Ellie, from Toolbox Marketing, was on shoot aiding the direction of the students work and providing a direct link to each shop.
The Year 2 students are working within groups for this project, and each group was tasked with styling Autumn / Winter clothing from the arc; which was then made into a look book as the final outcome for the project.
Working with Ellie, the students borrowed clothing to style from many fashion shops within the arc, even expanding this to books as props from Waterstones - a result of the students learning about the importance of set design.
Charlotte Lovejoy (pictured below), 17, from Clare in Suffolk, said: "I worked as part of a team to generate imagery and create a look book for the arc shopping centre. On the main photo shoot days, I modelled, styled clothes and took photographs. These have then been used in the look book I designed. A highlight from this project would be being given the opportunity to work a live project for a client. This gave me first-hand experience of what it will be like in the fashion industry."
The Year 2 Fashion Media and Promotion students had to carefully plan all elements of the photo shoot; who the model would be, how would they pose, styling their make-up and hair and how their imagery will be used to promote Autumn/Winter fashion at The Arc.
They have taken these images forward and each student has produced an individual look book promoting the arc shopping centre. Within this they have utilised creative graphic design elements to ensure an effective, eye catching presentation of their work.
"This project is a real-life industry experience for our students, allowing them to experience first-hand what goes into creating a fashion look book for a shopping centre," said Sophie Lachowycz, Course Director – Fashion Media and Promotion. "They are learning a vast range of professional skills to support this, from fashion photography through to working to a client’s branding guidelines.
"Having the opportunity to undertake our two-day photo shoot at the arc was an amazing experience for everyone involved. The students were able to style any clothing of their choosing from a wide range of brands to generate their creative imagery. They have taken this forward into the creation of their look book, which utilises many of the skills we teach on the course. This was a true to life experience of how they may work in the Fashion Media and Promotion industry."
