Overview of course

This course has been developed to give an understanding of how to recognise signs of bullying and discrimination in children and young people.  Learn about various types of bullying including cyberbullying and factors that are likely to put a child at greater risk.

Develop a greater understanding of legislation regarding bullying and discrimination and the procedures that should be followed when incidents are reported.

What will I learn?

Section 1: What is bullying and discrimination ?

Learners will explore the definition of bullying, and different types of bullying that take place, including cyberbullying.  Learners will also be introduced to the different types of discrimination, and why children and young people may engage in discriminatory bullying.

Section 3: How to recognise bullying in children and young people

Learners will explore why some children and young people may be at higher risk of being bullied than others and how to recognise the signs of bullying.  This section will also cover the short and long-term effects of bullying on the victim and the bully.

Section 4: How to respond to occurrences of bullying

Learners will cover ways in which educators, parents and children themselves can help to prevent bullying.  They will also be introduced to ways in which a child or young person who is being bullied can be supported, how schools can intervene, and how to approach a bully, as well as organisations who provide support.
