Duration 1 year
Study times You will be expected to be in college for a minimum of 3 days per week, from 9:00 to 4:15. Your timetable will be confirmed at induction.
Entry requirements

Completion of Level 1 Brickwork Diploma to a Merit level

Minimum overall attendance of 90%

Achievement of one GCSE, Math or English qualification at Level 4.

Completing a timebound skills test to the set quality standards.

Is it for me?

This comprehensive course will take you through the theory and practical work leading you to employment within the construction industry.  
This programme follows on from our Level 1 course, and after completion students could progress onto our Level 3 Diploma. The course will further practice your practical skills and develop an underpinning knowledge of the theory of bricklaying, whilst including a basic knowledge and understanding of the other trades associated with the construction industry. 
During the course you will also learn how to develop essential character strengths for success, such as confidence, self-belief and ownership. 

What you'll learn

  • Principles of building, construction, information and communication 
  • Producing thin-joint masonry and cladding 
  • Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers 
  • Interpret working drawings to set out masonry structures 
  • Construct cavity walling forming masonry structures 

Equipment required for the course

While all tools and materials are supplied for the practical work in our modern workshops, students will need to provide:

Steel toe-capped safety boots, which must be worn in the workshops at all times.

Black polo shirts 

Black workwear trousers

Work experience placements

During this course you will take part in work experience placement in the sector, which will give you a massive advantage when you are ready to move into employment. This will be arranged with our work placement officer to find you a suitable placement.   

Assessment

Assessments will be carried out in the classroom in the form of multiple-choice test papers and in the practical workshops where brickwork models will be assessed for accuracy. 
There are also two online City & Guilds exams to be taken for units 201 (health & safety) and 202 (principals of construction).
