Overview of apprenticeship
A funeral director has overall responsibility for the client and the deceased by arranging, conducting and managing the funeral. The funeral director will act as a role model, mentor and coach to the team. They will liaise with a wide range of other organisations and services on behalf of the client to deliver the funeral. On the day of the funeral, a funeral director briefs and leads the team and is the central point of contact, coordination and escalation of feedback. Creating and developing sensitive working relationships with clients and stakeholders such as suppliers, the police, coroners and medical personnel is a key part of the role. Funeral directors are the first point of contact for colleagues regarding specialist funeral services such as exhumation, bequeathable, repatriation, military funerals, burial at sea and multiple funerals.
Delivery Plan and Assessment
Learners will study the knowledge, skills and behaviours associated to the Level 3 Funeral Director Standard. This will include topics such as, Client, Reputation, Leadership, Legal and Governance to name just a few. The Apprentice will be allocated a WSC Programme Tutor who will guide and support them through their 12 months of training prior to preparation for End Point Assessment.
Where will this course take me?
On successful completion learners will have mastered the role of Funeral Director and be able to establish a long standing career within the industry.
Entry requirements
Level 2 Funeral team member (Arranger or Operative) or minimum 12 months industry experience. Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment.

How is this funded?
Learners
Apprentices are not required to contribute financially towards Apprenticeship training.
Employers
If you are an employer with an annual wage bill of £3 million or more, you will pay into an apprenticeship levy. This levy is then used to pay for the training element of the apprenticeship course. The total figure for the Apprenticeship is negotiated before enrolment and once confirmed will be taken in monthly payments from your account directly to us or paid to us via invoice should additional fees be required.
If you are an employer with an annual wage bill of under £3 million, the Government will fund 95% of the training fee meaning you will be required to contribute 5%. You may be required to contribute additional fees which we will invoice the company for. The additional fees will be made known and negotiated prior to the Apprentice enrolment.
There are additional incentives available if you are a small employer (under 50) and if you train/recruit a 16-18 year old or 19-24 year old with an Education Health and Care Plan.
